Uber Visa Card

The Uber Visa Card is one of the newest offerings by Barclaycard, providing 4% back on dining (including UberEATS), 3% back on airfare and at hotels, and 2% back on online purchases (including Uber itself).

It has no annual fee, and comes with some rewarding benefits like a $50 annual credit for streaming services if you spend $5,000 per year, and up to $600 in mobile phone insurance if you pay your phone bill with the card.

Overall it’s a very rewarding card given that it has no annual fee. The 4% back category is a better reward for dining than most cards offer, the 3% category includes not just airfare and hotels but also travel agencies like Airbnb, and the 2% category covers a very wide variety of purchases, including most online subscription services (excluding utilities and similar services).

You’ll be able to redeem the points you earn at a value of 1 cent per point, for Uber credits through the Uber app, statement credits, or gift cards. That means you’ll be earning the equivalent of 4% cash back on dining, 3% cash back on airfare and at hotels, and 2% cash back on online purchases.

There’s no foreign transaction fee on this card, so it’s a good choice to bring with you when traveling outside the country unlike most cards, which charge a 3% fee.

You don’t need to be an Uber driver to apply for this card. But if you are an Uber driver, check out the Uber Visa Debit Card, which provides cash back at a variety of different merchants (including gas stations).

You can use this card anywhere Visa is accepted.

If you apply for this card through the Uber app and are approved, you’ll be able to use it immediately through the app for Uber purchases without needing to wait for the physical card to be mailed to you.

  • Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
  • If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
  • If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
  • To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.
