So I am about to take a trip and will be staying at an Intercontinental Hotel in Porto Portugal so when I saw this offer for 80,000 pts after using the card for $2,000 in purchases in the first 3 months I figured I had nothing to lose since the card gives 10 pts per dollar at the hotel as well as 2 pts for every dollar at gas stations and provides a free night on your card anniversary.  So my FICO is 707, Vantage is 724, the cards I have include the Citi Advantage Platinum Mastercard (CL $13,060), Citi Advantage Executive Platinum World Elite Mastercard ($13,000), Barclays Aviator Mastercard (CL $14,400), SchoolsFirst Mastercard-credit union (CL $7,000), Amex Everyday Cash (CL $10,000), Amex Cash Magnet (CL $10,000), Chase Amazon Prime (CL $5,000), Chase Slate (CL $4,100), and while I saw the same card with an offer of 50,000 pts I found and applied onlie via thepointsguy site which had the 80,000 pts offer.  I was shocked that Chase instantly approved me with a $28,400 Credit Limit! To be fair, I keep my balances at zero on almost all my cards except the Chase Slate which was a balance transfer card with 0 apr for 15 months and only have $2,300 on there.  Depending on when the credit cards report my balances through the month I likely always have less than $5000 on them collectively as I pay them off several times a month to avoid interest payments which are generally punitive.  I'll be able to use this IHG Card with no foreign transaction fees on my trip before Thanksgiving, and though there is an allowance for Global Entry, I already have it and have the allowance on my Citi Advantage Executive Platinum World Elite Mastercard and I might have it on the Aviator as well, but it's still a great perk and if you fly enough to want to avoid Customs/Immigration lines, get Global Entry as it makes life much easier and you waste less time.

The new keeper card on the block!

I applied for this card a couple of nights ago, after researching and pondering over it for about a week.  704 Experian FICO, 738 Transunion Vantage, 739 Equifax Vantage...10% utilization over all cards...100% on time payments.  Through a small technicality, I was not immediately approved.  I fixed the technicality, and then got on the horn with the Recon line as soon as I could.  After giving the representative from Chase some info, I was approved for a $2000 limit.  It's not as high a limit as I was hoping for, but I can transfer more from other Chase cards if I so choose.  At $89, I feel this will become a very popular keeper card in the future.  The sign-up bonus is nice, the earning rates are good, and the free anniversary night stay at an IHG hotel is something I've never experienced before and it sounds quite good.  The perk that caught my eye, however, is the $100 Global Entry statement credit!  Simply amazing when you need to fly and hate long lines as much as I do.  From what I hear, this speeds up the process quite nicely.  Very nice pickup for me indeed!

How To Apply For A Credit Card

Credit card applications are straightforward, but you'll need to meet some minimum financial requirements to get approved for the best credit card offers. Learn how to apply for a credit online and what to expect after you click submit.

  • Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
  • If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
  • If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
  • To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.
